The Bay Tree Studio, Thorpeness

The Bay Tree Studio apartment in Thorpeness is lovely. Set in a quiet garden just 5 minutes walk from the centre of this lovely village. The accommodation was clean and tidy, perfect for a short stay. The village is very unusual and well worth a visit.

The Bay Tree Studio is tastefully decorated, clean and very peaceful. It’s compact – but that means it also heats up very easily (and furthermore maintains the warmth very well) – so overall very cosy. It is ideally located to explore the Suffolk coast and the wonderful nearby RSPB flagship reserve, Minsmere, where we easily spent a whole day. In Thorpeness itself, the local Dolphin pub is less than 5 minutes walk away and offers a delicious menu with ample choice for dining out several evenings in a row. Take a torch (or light on your phone) though for the walk back as the village is pitch black! Excellent for star-watching. All in all a delightful bolthole to enjoy the Suffolk countryside and pamper yourself with a comfortable stay and excellent dining nearby. Car parking is generously provided by the host in front of her own home which adjoins the studio.

The studio surpassed expectation. I had a delightful stay, so much to do! The beach is just a couple of minutes walk away, Aldeburgh a 40 minute gentle stroll along the coastal path, Dunwich a short drive and Southwold within easy reach too. Thorpeness is great for a wander… and then back to the studio for comfortable relaxation. I wish I’d booked to stay for longer. Thank you for letting me store my bike in the garage.

Would definitely recommend the location too with a lovely easy walk to Aldeburgh and easy to explore wider Suffolk too. Excellent communication in preparation for our visit and a very well organised living space. Bay-tree studio is an ideal bolt-hole to get away from the ‘noise’ of the daily routine and relax. Near to a lovely coast with numerous wild life reserves and other sites of interest such as Aldeburgh and Sutton Hoo, there is also plenty to keep you occupied.

We had a brilliant short stay here. The place was really clean and well equipped. There was also a good selection of maps, books and games. It’s a short walk to the beach, coffee and ice cream stores and the Meare. We had a delicious meal at The Dolphin but you really need to book in advance as it’s very popular. If you can’t get in, it’s not far to Aldeburgh for the best fish and chips you’ll ever eat. Great walking from the doorstep, and a short drive to RSPB Minsmere and Dunwich Heath. We certainly intend to stay here again.

What a delightful find!
We should have spent the week on the Pembrokeshire coast but the Welsh lockdown prevented this. We looked for somewhere closer to house and were very fortunate to find the Studio was available for a short stay. We enjoyed some bracing walks in the rain and the Studio was the perfect cosy place to return to. The studio is extremely well equipped and we appreciated the maps. We found it to be exceptionally clean – thank you Aldeburgh Coastal Cottages. We hope to stay longer next time,

Highly recommended. Located in the garden of the main house, this is a cosy, well-appointed, faultlessly-presented studio flat in a perfect location for beach access. Quiet & peaceful with a friendly team at Aldeburgh Coastal Cottages. Easy parking on the property. Super-comfy bed. Naturally, being a studio flat, the cooking facilities are limited to a two-ring hob & microwave – but for a long weekend, who needs more? Will definitely be back at The Bay Tree Studio again.

The Bay Tree Studio is tucked away behind the main house; easy to find in daylight, but not so easy in pitch darkness at 10.30 pm, which is when I unfortunately had to arrive! Definitely take a torch, as Thorpeness is completely black after dark! The studio is perfect for either a couple or a solo traveller; the bed is really comfortable; the bathroom is more spacious than I’d expected in such a small conversion, and the kitchen area was fine for me but would be quite tight on space for any actual cooking ( which I didn’t do!) The studio was light, bright, airy, quiet and super clean for my visit; communication with Aldeburgh Coastal Cottages was prompt and courteous, and overall I was very satisfied with my stay.
