An ideal getaway for couples or small families looking for a relaxing break on the Suffolk Coast. ‘The Dower Cottage’ is a part of ‘The Dower’ estate and has been refurbished to create spacious, light and airy open plan living and kitchen area with an additional separate sitting room. It has two bedrooms each with a large en-suite bathroom. There is a wonderful, private enclosed garden that includes a paved terrace and the original large walled garden.
Just 2.5 miles from Aldeburgh, this stunning house enjoys a fantastic seaside location and is adjacent to the RSPB’s wetland reserve, Minsmere. The estate is home to a range of wildlife including deer and there are also opportunities for fishing trips as well as spectacular walks.

Isolated and quiet, a wonderful, huge, old grand house that has been converted into 3 properties. We were in the back wing with the old coach house and staff quarters, with a massive walled kitchen garden and patio area. The grounds and surroundings had something of the faded grandeur of when this was part of Sizewell Hall. Very quiet, you need to drive down a dirt track to get to it, you have no neighbours other than the 2 other properties and no other houses for a good half mile to a mile around it. Beach was a short walk down the path and clamber down sloping eroded path but doable even with a 3 year old. The house was well appointed and modernised with a large lounge-kitchen-dining area and a smaller lounge. 2 good sized bedrooms and huge adjoining en suites. We hope to return and perhaps hire out the big wing with our extended family.

Dower house was exactly as described. Lovely and clean. I would not hesitate to book, we had a great six day break there. Interesting Towns and Villages to visit and a great place for walks.

The Dower Cottage is the perfect getaway – perfect location just 3-4 minutes to the beach, easy walk to Aldeburgh or out towards the north to endless beaches. We even spotted a seal sun lounging on the beach in the morning after our swim. The cottage is big, clean, 2 beautiful en-suite bedrooms, double-living room and a huge garden, with lounge chairs and table and chairs right in front of the kitchen. We saw lots of birds, a pheasant and a family of deer in the garden. We also the quietest nights ever and fantastically fresh sea air. We were called the morning of our arrival to say the cottage is already set for us, so no need to wait till the checkin time. I’m sure this doesn’t always happen but it was a great welcome already. Cannot fault this place at all, nor the communication, we will be back!

Beautiful location and really lovely accommodation, perfect for anyone wanting a bit of an escape. Perfect also for small family’s and a great secure garden for kids to run around safely. The cottage it’s self has everything you would need, comfy beds, big bathrooms a cosy sitting room for evenings and a open plan kitchen dinning area for the day. Great location to the sea as just a couple of minutes walk. We didn’t want to leave!

Home from home!. Set in woodland and a 2 minute stroll along a leafy path to the beach, The Dower Cottage was perfect for a really comfortable and enjoyable stay. It was well equipped, modern, spacious, light and the the beds were great. We had our own private walled garden with a large patio and our own ‘meadow’! The location made an excellent starting point for a walk along the beach to Aldeburgh, stopping at pretty Thorpeness for coffee. Twice during our week we ate delicious pizza, cooked in a wood burning oven in the neighbouring campsite’s restaurant overlooking the sea – delicious! We would love to stay in The Dower Cottage again and highly recommend it to others. A huge thank you to Angela of Aldeburgh Coastal Cottages for helping to make our stay so wonderful.

The accommodation was ideal for four adults with very comfortable beds and ensuite facilities. We ate our meals in the cottage which was spacious with a great outdoor space. The location was also spot on with the beach a few minutes walk away and great coastal walks. We walked into Thorpeness and Aldeburgh which were both worth a visit. We booked the cottage as a last minute break following Covid 19 lockdown and it was the perfect place to go in the circumstances. We only stayed for three nights but we all wished it could have been longer. Would certainly come back and recommend to others, and having the option of the other accommodation on site would mean we would consider coming back with a larger party.
