Description
Beaver Cottage is attached to Cob House, one of the largest Aldeburgh houses set in eleven acres of land leading down to the river Alde. You will have access to all this land. There is a small beach down by the river from which you can fish and swim when the tide is right. Well behaved dogs are very welcome.
The cottage has glorious views over the river Alde with complete access down to the river front. We have a couple of kayaks you can borrow (at your own risk) to explore the river and marshes.
Beaver Cottage is in a prime area on the heritage coast. From the garden you can walk along the river wall into Aldeburgh, past the beautiful mud flats where birds rootle in the mud. Or you can walk through the North Warren bird reserve to Thorpeness and back along the beach, or along the old Sailor’s Path by the river to Snape.
The shared eleven acre garden is full of wildlife including woodpeckers, a Barn owl called Strix, river and garden birds, muntjack deer, many rabbits and foxes and if you are lucky you might see a seal in the river or possibly an otter.
Beaver Cottage is five miles from Snape which is the home of Snape Maltings. The Maltings has music throughout the year including the Proms in August and the Festival in June featuring many famous names.
If you are keen to learn to sail then Aldeburgh Yacht Club offers tuition on the River Alde or you can watch the many races on weekends throughout the Summer.
Just a fifteen minute drive from the RSPB bird reserve Minsmere, and in the heart of the Suffolk Heritage Coast, Beaver Cottage is a wonderful place from which to experience it all whatever the weather.
The cottage is approached by a private lane leading from Saxmundham Road and has ample parking and it’s own front door. All the accommodation is on ground floor level. There are two steps up to the kitchen and bathroom with handrails. There is a spacious living room with views of the garden and river, comfortably furnished for easy seating and dining.

‘Birdwatching break’ Excellent dog friendly house. Friendly and welcoming hosts. Wonderful garden . Easy access to the town walking over the fields.

We had a great break. Lovely location and felt very welcome.
Rob – June 2023
Brilliant location and great views across the grounds and the wide River Alde. An annexe to a large house with access to the grounds of the large house (c. 11 acres and a wonderful and varied space for all ages) plus a self contained secluded garden directly behind the cottage. Owners live next door and are helpful with local knowledge to enhance your stay. Good walks along the river directly from the grounds. Car parking space in front of the cottage with easy access. Cottage of good size, well appointed and maintained. Booking went very easily and our second visit to the cottage and no doubt a third will follow!
Stuart – June 2023
Absolutely wonderful cottage. comfortable and beautiful surroundings. getting to the beach is a joy from your own garden

Wow! what a find! Thank you so much Tony and Debbie for your generosity in opening up your fabulous gardens, woods, fields and beach for (your very) lucky guests. We’ve had a such a great time, perfect for our dogs and children. One of our dogs is a rescue from Romania and has never had so much off lead time in such an environment, where he can feel relaxed. The cottage had everything we need and we loved buying fresh seafood from Aldeburgh Sea front and eating Tapas style at “home”. We had a great walk to Thorpeness and along ridge to the beach plus a trip to Snape Maltings for a mooch around the shops and galleries. We look forward to coming back soon! Till next time.

Great place for a relaxing break, beautiful part of the world. Cottage offered everything you need for a comfortable stay with easy access to the surrounding parts of East Anglia. Would thoroughly recommend.
Simon – September 2022
We had such a lovely time at Beaver Cottage. It is an amazing setting and Tony and Debbie are so generous to share use of their amazing garden. We enjoyed swimming in the river and just spending time on the quiet sandy beach. Our toddler had a fantastic time as it is a great set up for kids, and the dog loved it too! Thanks so much to Tony, Debbie and Jesse the dog.

If you are looking for a property to unwind with family or friends this is it. The garden is huge and leads down to a small beach on the edge of the river. There are a number of places in the garden that offer seclusion to sit alone or with friends on the comfortable benches or chairs supplied. Foxes roam at night and deer can be found in the woods in the middle of the garden during the day. Then you’ve got Aldeburgh and Dunwich (great shingle beach, free carpark and fabulous pub) to explore. The owners live next door and they could not have been more helpful, especially their dog.
Peter – June 2022
What a wonderful place to stay! Three generations and so much to enjoy without having to resort to driving anywhere else. We all, including three very happy dogs, thoroughly enjoyed exploring the extensive gardens, woodland and beach area. The children loved being able to use the trampoline, treehouse, slide and swing. Having use of the Kayaks was a huge bonus too. Out of all the holiday rentals we’ve been to, this is one I would return to in a heartbeat. Debbie and Tony were very welcoming too. Thank you.

If you are seeking peace plus tranquillity, then Beaver Cottage offers just that! We have had a restful three days here in Aldeburgh! The garden is endless; offering fabulous views and perfect dog walks. Both Tony and Debbie make you feel very welcome too. Our dog Coco, enjoyed playing with Jesse in the garden(which is secure and plentiful) The cottage itself is cosy and comfortable and has everything you require for a short break. We love Aldeburgh and will most definitely come back to Beaver Cottage. Thank you.
Ross, Debbie, Eva & Coco – April 2022
This was a 3 generation family holiday and Beaver Cottage had something to offer everyone! The accommodation was spacious, immaculately clean and extremely comfortable. The garden and grounds to the estuary were nothing short of magical when we could wander down and see the rabbits, deer and hear all the birdsong. Big thanks to the owners for being so lovely and welcoming. For anyone who has not stopped here before the walk into Aldeburgh itself would be approx 25 mins.. This was our first holiday in many years where we were not on the sea front. It was such a lovely change to stop here. I think that we all felt instantly relaxed with the spectacular views and sounds.
Joanne – October 2021
A lovely location(in our view one of the best in Aldeburgh) on the slopes of the Alde estuary. Tony and Debbie, the relaxed owners of the main house next door, generously share their extensive grounds in which it is possible to find any number of lovely secluded areas to sit out, cook out and even make tea in the shepherds hut in the orchard. A walk to the private sandy beach was a daily joy, often accompanied by Jesse, a charming, friendly border collie. From the beach you can easily walk to the main sea beaches along the embankment wall. Although we had a great time going to the various nearby attractions it was also a lovely place just to chill and listen to the amazing birdsong. We spotted the resident Barn Owl and rabbits galore. Information about things to do was detailed and accurate and communication with the owners was very easy.
Les, Beaver Cottage – May 2021
We really enjoyed this cottage and were delighted to find that we could not only use the garden allocated to the cottage but also the 11 acres of grounds belonging to the adjoining house of the owners which grounds run down to the estuary. Very dog friendly. Enjoyed use of the kayaks. Owners friendly and helpful. good bird watching at low tide and good walks from the cottage along the sea wall and over the golf course.
John – October 2020
Great location and huge space, kayaks a real bonus. Great stay
Simon Tarrant – August 2020
Beaver Cottage is set in a wonderful location with beautiful views down to the River Alde and you have free access to the extensive grounds. This was our first family holiday post-COVID and was a truly lucky find. The cottage, gardens and grounds have been simply fantastic – our grandson has just loved being “outside” and we’ve all enjoyed the walks down to the river beach and along the river. The kitchen is very modern and well-equipped and we also made use of the gas barbecue twice during our stay. The owners of the property live next door and provided us with plenty of useful tips and recommendations for our stay ,,,thank you so much we’ve had a lovely holiday.
Jo Waddingham – August 2020
Me, my sister, my Mum and my Dad have really enjoyed our stay here. Jessie the dog is amazing! He is so friendly and I loved playing with him. I loved the garden and we have a campfire multiple nights! The people here are lovely! The beds are really comfy and the trampoline is great! It’s so sad to leave 🙁 Thank you so much!
P.S The family was very helpful and informed us where there were good walks and pubs. We loved going kayaking and crabbing. Jessie was very friendly and we will miss him. We will miss this place, the family and especially Jessie.
Jenny, Josie, Mike and Fiona – July 2020
Deborah and Tony were very welcoming to us and our dogs. The cottage was comfortable, clean and felt very cosy. It was lovely to wake up in the morning and take the dogs for a walk through the grounds to the river. I can highly recommend Beaver Cottage!
Helen – December 2019
A very comfortable cottage in a superb location with private access to the Alde estuary, yet close to Aldeburgh for cafes and shops. Debbie and Tony are very hospitable, welcoming and efficient hosts. We enjoyed exploring the extensive garden and walking along the estuary, spotting birds and watching sunsets.
