Sanctuary House, Thorpeness

I could not have found a more perfect place for our short family get together this month. All our needs were met in Sanctuary House. We had so many options – walking, visiting nearby beauty spots, boating on the mere ( and thank you for the free ticket) sitting comfortably and chatting, playing games and doing jigsaws. No need to bring our own! Comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen. Secure garden space for dogs. Wi-Fi a bit dodgy in the evenings but hardly worth mentioning. Shall I continue? Let me simply say Highly Recommended.

Great place for a family get together, right in heart of the village and only 2 minutes to the beach. Plenty of parking. The house was well equipped the log burner stove was nice in the evenings.

Just got back from a lovely long weekend at the property. We were a group of 4 adults, 4 teenagers and dogs. We had plenty of space for us all, room around the dining table to play games and eat dinner, also room for us all to relax in the living room. Log burner was nice to have after a cold walk and instructions for use were helpful. Kitchen was well equipped and clean. Bathrooms were a good size and also clean. Bedding and towels of good quality and beds were comfortable. Location is great, we went on a couple of long walks, there were restaurants and shops within walking distance. Would recommend this property.

The location was excellent and the cottage was very cosy. Emma’s communication was excellent. We experienced a minor issue and she responded very quickly – it was all sorted by the time we’d returned. All in all a lovely stay.

Beautiful spot overlooking the fabulous Meare and a short stroll to the beach – we got a week’s family licence and the kids loved hopping on and off the boats most days. The house is lovely – we thought the pictures didn’t do it justice! – and well equipped and the owner was very responsive and helpful. Big thumbs up! Thank you for a great holiday!

Great place for larger groups, there were 10 of us and still plenty of space and bathrooms. Everything you need is there for a comfortable stay. Great value considering the size and quality of the property. Warm and comfortable, easy to find and very centrally located with views of the duck pond and boating lake. Had a lovely couple of days with friends to celebrate our 50th birthdays. The sanctuary was perfect for what we needed. Very clean and comfortable, plenty of room for us all. We were very lucky with the weather so enjoyed sitting in the garden looking at the lovely view over the Meare. Dolphin inn was a handy few minutes walk and we enjoyed walking around the village. The beach is a very short walk and we had a lovely walk along the coast to Aldeburgh.

We’ve just a wonderful stay at Sanctuary House. Loads of room for 2 families of five to stay with no problems. The house is in fantastic location, overlooking the beautiful boating lake in Thorpeness and just a stone’s throw from the beach and pub. Rooms were well-supplied and presented, communication from host was personal and helpful throughout. All in all, a great stay – highly recommended. Thank you!

Lovely house in great location looking over The Meare. 4 big bedrooms and 2 singles all with super comfy beds and bedding. Lovely dining room that seats 10+ and comfy living room with fire. Had a great pre Xmas stay with all the family and cooked a full 3 course Xmas dinner in the spacious kitchen.

Lucky us – we had a wonderful winter lockdown!! Cosy fire, winter walks, bike rides & fabulous internet connection for school & work. Suited our family of four perfectly. Will definitely return when we can enjoy the Meare, beach and friends as the ideal location on the village green.
