Great space indoors and outdoors for a family celebration and set in beautiful surroundings.

Fabulous property, superb, rural location, spacious, well equipped, comfortable! Balcony great for birdwatching. Twenty minute walk down footpath to Thorpeness boating lake and beach. Recommend the cafe by the boating lake and the Dolphin pub. Boating lake is manmade and shallow so safe for older children who loved kayaking on it.

Beautiful house in a peaceful and picturesque location. All you could hear was the sound of the birds!

We spent a fabulous week at Crossing Cottage. From the moment we arrived we were spellbound by the view, quietness and amazing wildlife to watch from the property. We only used our car once preferring to walk from the property in to Thorpeness or along the wide variety of footpaths on the doorstep. There is even a good map in the property to help. The property was extremely comfortable, spacious and a probably the best equipped kitchen we have experienced. We hope to return for another visit in the future. PS: heard a cuckoo every morning and saw up to 10 roe deer stroll past through the marsh most mornings (early) and late evening. We spent a fabulous week at Crossing Cottage. We as a family stayed in Crossing Cottage to celebrate an early January birthday. We arrived and were immediately impressed by the location, stunning scenery and impressive house capable of meeting our every need. There is so much space to all socialise together,( but also has a very handy small separate room where you can have a little peace if needed) games in the cupboard kept the children happy as did table-tennis the piano, garden and play area. As adults we were transfixed by watching the Marsh harriers, cormorants, geese, swans, kestrels, gulls, ducks and woodland birds on RSPB North Warren.
We walked all around the area, had delicious hot chocolates in The Kitchen, fabulous food at The Dolphin in Thorpeness and at The Regatta and The Brudenell in Aldeburgh….. Fantastic!!!
We saw grey seals swimming in the sea, experienced crashing waves, strong winds, a stunning rainbow and then beautiful sunny winter days with pale blue skies ideal for walking with our little dog. Everything for our week was perfect and we would like to thank the owners for letting us share their beautiful holiday home and to Aldeburgh Coastal Cottages for always going the extra mile when needed, their personal friendly team and constant ease of booking. We are booking again for 2024 once I finish this review 😁😁😁

This house is a haven, surrounded by beauty and a perfect meeting place for a large group. From start to finish it was amazing and communication was very straight forward. It has a beautiful lounge & kitchen diner that very comfortably sits 8 people and is fully equipped. The log burner was a lovely focal point. The nearby town of Aldeburgh has everything you need to enjoy your time away. Thorpeness is very picturesque too. Can’t wait to stay here again!
Diane – November 2022
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was very light and airy and a perfect size for us. The bedrooms and bathrooms were good. The outside area was also good with the dogs and there were lovely walks very close

Thorpeness is a great location for a holiday & this house is in a lovely quiet location deep in the countryside.
Clare – July 2022
Such a well equipped house! We were a party of 9 and it’s such a spacious house it was easy for anyone to find a quiet spot inside or out. We loved the little tv/reading room! There was space in the main living room to keep the table tennis up so it got lots of use. We loved being able to eat together round the huge dining table. Lovely clean comfy beds. It was great having the separate toilet for when the two bath/shower rooms were in use. The kitchen is really well equipped, lots of decent sharp knives etc. It’s a lovely walk into Thorpeness, which we did lots for ice cream and to hire boats on the lake and feed the ducks/geese/swans and their young. We had brunch at The Kitchen and lunch at The Dolphin and the golf club which is really close and does simple bar meals until 5pm. We also played the adventure golf course which was great fun especially for the 10 and 8 year olds in our party. It was the perfect remote setting for a week away from it all, beautiful views over the marshes and all you could hear was birds and the leaves on the trees.
Sharon – June 2022
We had a wonderful stay here. The house is situated in a very peaceful position.
Emma – May 2022
A fantastic stay in a beautiful cottage in the loveliest setting. The view from the garden and the cottage is just spectacular. Huge kitchen, lots of different rooms so perfect for a big group. Big garden with views over the nature reserve. First night we walked to The Dolphin Inn pub in Thorpeness which took 30 mins with 4 kids and a dog and it was so nice to walk past the golf course and lovely scenery. Highly recommend. Walked into Aldeburgh which took 40 minutes idyllic seaside town with lovely coffee shops, shops etc. Drove to Southwold for the day which took 35 minutes. Southwold is bigger than Aldeburgh and has a sandy beach with quant shops/ restaurants/ bars and cafes. We will definitely be back
Nicola – May 2022
Great location with plenty of woodland walks, a short walk to the golf club (with crazy golf) boating lake and the beach. The cottage was well equipped and the kids loved the table tennis table. A fantastic base for exploring the surrounding areas.
Andrew – April 2022
Lovely house in a fabulous setting
Victoria – March 2022
Fab house in a brilliant location. Warm, comfortable, clean and very well equipped. Peace and quiet and wonderful views of the mere. About a 15 min walk from Thorpeness itself. We had a brilliant stay.
Tina – March 2022
A great house with gorgeous views over the marshes and some good birdwatching opportunities. Really well equipped and furnished, nice quality bedding and towels and the table tennis in the family room was a very welcome distraction from Storm Eunice!! Thankyou very much a for a lovely family weekend and we’d love to come back.
Diana – February 2022
A lovely house and perfect base for exploring with the family.

Lovely cottage. will come again if ever in the area
Adekola – January 2022
This is a fantastic family house in a wonderful, quiet location. You are surrounded by nature – amazing sightings of marsh harriers – and great walks to Thorpeness and Aldeburgh. We all wished that we were staying for the whole week. We loved the house and the location – a perfect venue for our quiet family celebration. We enjoyed walking to Aldeburgh and Thorpeness as well as around the reserve. During a wonderful sunset on Sunday evening, we watched six marsh harriers hunting over the marshes – amazing.
Wendy – December 2021
Great stay at Emma’s place – perfect for our family, lots of space, beautiful views and lovely walks on our doorstep. Would definitely recommend!
Kate – October 2021
This property looks out over an RSPB nature reserve. Numerous walks start from just outside the front door, whether round the nature reserve, by the edge of the golf course to Thorpeness and the beach or along the old railway line to Aldeburgh. We watched Marsh Harriers and Merlins (I think) over the mere. I even saw a couple of deer. The upstairs balcony has an even better view than the hides around the reserve. We had couple of dogs with us and it was perfect for them with lots of outdoor space. Ideal for an extended family get together. The kitchen and lounge areas are huge with the large windows overlooking the mere. Thorpeness is an interesting and quirky place. It was great walking among the unusual buildings. We only did half the activities we could have done in the nearby area.
TV S – August 2021
Fabulous cottage for birdwatchers which looks over an area of fenland – we saw marsh harriers every day of our three-night stay, plus a bittern, egret, kestrels and peregrine falcons. The owner has provided several sets of binoculars (one set broken but one excellent set) Great walks from the door. The property is very well equipped, furnished and spacious. The kitchen is vast and well laid out with wonderful views, shared by the equally vast vaulted living room. Best meal was dinner at the Parrot and and Punchbowl (which is walkable but beware it’s very easy to get lost). Also ate in Thorpeness opp the duck pond (thumbs up for the open Coronation chicken sandwich) and in Aldeburgh. Feel we have exhausted Thorpeness, which is a quaint novelty – a curious mix of Legoland, The Stepford Wives, The Prisoner and The Truman Show.
Katherine – July 2021
Magical place for all ages. This is our 4th visit to Crossing Cottage which, surely, is praise indeed. We all love it from a 4 year old up to a 74 year old! The location is superb. Ideally situated for easy access to both Aldeburgh and Southwold and, not forgetting Thorpeness itself with its beautiful mere. Having a nature reserve at the bottom of the garden is an added bonus. We saw a bittern, marsh harriers, terns and even had a daily visit from a red deer. The children loved the garden with its slide and swings and space to play football etc. Can thoroughly recommend it!
Trusted customer from Needingworth – June 2021
A wonderful , light and spacious house. It has a well equipped kitchen and great communal space. We enjoyed the amazing views, and thanks to the binoculars provided, discovered the joy of bird watching. Scenic walks into Aldeburgh , and along the beach to Maggi Hambling’s The Scallop , boating at Thorpeness , and The Sailors path to Snape , are just a few activities that kept us busy and deserving of our fish and chips ! We would recommend Crossing Cottage.
Miranda – May 2021

Amazing house and very peaceful location. Lovely views over nature reserve from the huge kitchen and impressive living room. Beds were very comfortable and good showers. You can walk down the footpath opposite to the village/sea in 10-15mins and into Aldeburgh (another 20mins). Lovely walking. Had an amazing time!

A beautiful and clean house in a stunning and peaceful location.
Dominic Elliott – July 2020
We had a family 50th party so the house catered for everyone from aged 8 to 50. Lots of space and everything has been thought of to make this a home from home. The table tennis table provided hours of entertainment and the fire is a lovely centrepiece to the house. The views are second to none and we felt relaxed in the first 5 minutes. Lovely walk to Thorpeness beach. Would highly recommend this wonderful house, thank you.

Beautiful view over fenland with birds and wildlife coming and going. Lovely open plan house, spacious and still felt cosy around the wood burner in the evenings. Wonderfully equipped kitchen for family cooking. Enjoyed the table tennis table! And made full use of binoculars! Great walks into Aldeburgh.
We loved the space, especially being able to watch Marsh Harriers and deer in the mornings over breakfast. It was great being able to walk into Thorpeness and Aldeburgh and we loved the wood burner in the dark evenings. We would definitely visit again!! Fantastic kitchen and we enjoyed being able to cook with everything that we could have needed. Thank you.

‘Fantastic Christmas and highly recommend Aldeburgh Coastal Cottages’
After spending two previous weekends at Crossing Cottage with girlfriends, we decided to book for our family Christmas this year. We all loved it and had a fantastic time with the intention of returning next Christmas.
All staff members are helpful and cottage is always in immaculate condition and very well equipped.
Lovely local walks, nice friendly local pubs and great fish n chips!!! We always spoil ourselves with the hire of a hot tub too!
Love the cottage, love the area!
Sam Harry, Hertfordshire – January 2019
Aldeburgh Coastal Cottages provided a helpful, friendly and efficient service. Angela and Kim were responsive to our individual needs and requirements and met them fully. Much appreciated. Crossing Cottage provided an excellent location for a large family celebration. The views were stunning of what one guest described as a “Spring Watch” scene….. Marsh Harriers in flight, Bitterns booming….
Many walks available from the cottage.
